It's been a whirlwind of a summer/fall so far. As the sole employee of a small creative business -- with a day job because I still need to pay the bills - I've come to truly appreciate the risk and dedication it takes to get a business not only off the ground, but to grow it into something that can be fully sustaining. So many changes have happened in just a few shorty months. I have a new "day job" that is beautifully aligned with what I want to do as my last role before retirement into my next phase (which is hopefully sooner than later). Fairly impulsively, we moved out of the community we've been in for over 25 years and are on the cusp of rural yet minutes from the essentials. I have found that place that does my spirit good with horses as neighbors (or "neigh-bors"), chipmunks that greet me when I get home from the office job, and nature surrounding me. It's rare to hear the noise of an engine and the voices of birds and bugs and other creatures come through loud and clear.
This move taught me that I need to slow down and appreciate nature around me. That I need to recharge my batteries after running hard long before and well after the pandemic/lockdowns.
The most important thing I've learned on this journey is that you can do it all; you must figure out what the right balance for the components that make up the all. There's an ebb and flow. For 3 years I've worked on Luna's Parlour and hope to keep it going for many, many more. This little business is going to continue to grow and evolve, just at a slightly slower pace that lets me recharge my spirit regularly.
Aging is not necessarily always fun. What I have come to appreciate is the experience that comes with it. The ability to reflect about what one needs to keep going, to keep recharging the batteries, to look after one's family, and to do the things that one loves to do.
I love creating. I appreciate all the support I've gotten from my friends, family, customers, community, and hope you will continue your positivity and support as we continue to grow and evolve Luna's Parlour, over time.
